"Obamacare" is the nickname for the Affordable Care Act, passed in 2010. It is not a separate insurance company or a government plan — it is the law that created the Marketplace where private carriers sell coverage that has to meet minimum standards. Here is what that means for you in Texas.
Worth Knowing
Obamacare plans are sold by private insurance companies — the same carriers you have heard of. The law sets the rules those plans must follow. You are buying private coverage, not a government policy.
Anyone without affordable employer coverage can buy an ACA plan, at any income. Income only determines whether you get help paying for it. Self-employed Texans, early retirees, and contractors make up a large share of enrollees.
Obamacare plans include hospitalization, prescriptions, mental health care, maternity care and preventive care by law. Many plans that undercut them on price do so by leaving those things out.

Covered by Law
The ACA defines ten essential health benefits. Every Marketplace plan covers all ten, regardless of carrier, tier or price. If a plan you are offered leaves any of these out, it is not an ACA plan.
Annual checkups, screenings, immunizations and chronic disease management — covered at no cost to you on in-network plans.
You cannot be charged out-of-network rates for a genuine emergency, and no prior authorization is required.
Inpatient stays, surgery and the care that goes with them.
Every plan covers prescriptions, though the specific formulary varies by plan. Worth checking against the drugs you take.
Behavioral health, counselling and addiction treatment, covered at parity with physical health.
Prenatal, delivery and postnatal care. Pregnancy cannot be excluded as a pre-existing condition.
Diagnostic tests and lab work ordered by your provider.
Physical therapy, occupational therapy and the equipment needed to recover from injury or manage a disability.
Including dental and vision care for children.
The doctor visits and treatment you get without being admitted to a hospital.
Simple Process
One call connects you with a licensed Texas health insurance agent. A real person, not a bot.
We check the plans available in your ZIP, confirm your doctors are in-network, and calculate the financial help you qualify for.
If a plan fits, we handle the paperwork and submit it on the call. If nothing fits, we tell you that. The call is free either way.

One call, and a licensed agent handles the rest.
